Workplace Description
The Department of Immunotechnology conducts research ranging from advanced technology development to biomedical studies. The main research areas include immuno-oncology, sensitization, and biomarkers. The modern facilities are located at Medicon Village, where academic research is conducted alongside private companies and actors from the healthcare sector. A range of important infrastructures are available here, including specialized laboratories for spatial omics, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, and antibody production, as well as NBIS (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden). The department hosts a unit within Display and Selection Technologies, which is part of the national research platform SciLifeLab Drug Discovery and Development. The department is also responsible for several student courses and offers high-quality education at both undergraduate and advanced levels. Approximately 45 people work within the department.
Subject
Immunotechnology focusing on the establishment of tumor models and evaluation of immuno-oncological treatments.
Specific Subject Description
The research within this position lies in the field of immuno-oncology, with a particular focus on establishing tumor models for ovarian cancer based on cell lines and fresh resected patient material for the evaluation of immunotherapeutic strategies. The research group focuses on exploring tumor immune microenvironments through spatial omics and imaging, developing computational models for predicting molecular and clinical variables from histopathological images, as well as experimental evaluation of immunoregulatory target molecules and combination treatments. Our goal is to develop precision-oriented immuno-oncology in ovarian cancer through translational projects in close collaboration with preclinical and clinical specialists.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in tumor immunology and experience in establishing in vitro/ex vivo model systems as well as performing functional analyses using these systems. The overall aim is to identify treatments that stimulate cytotoxic immune responses in ovarian cancer and biomarkers to guide individualized treatment.
Job Responsibilities
The main task is to conduct research in the subject area, including experimental work, data analysis, interpretation, presentation, and dissemination of research results. More specifically, the research project will involve working with co-cultures of cell lines and peripheral mononuclear blood cells as well as precision-cut fresh tissue to investigate immunostimulatory treatments. The work may include spectral and high-throughput flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and multiplex immunofluorescence analysis, cytokine analyses, single-cell RNA sequencing, and spatial omics. The scope of the tasks may change depending on the project's development.
Teaching may be included in the position, but at most 20% of the working time. Teaching may include supervising students in labs, guidance in problem-based learning, or lectures. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of higher education pedagogical training. Supervision of master's students is included in the job responsibilities.
The postdoctoral researcher will be encouraged to actively seek external research funding and engage in collaborations with preclinical researchers, clinicians, as well as industry and society. The purpose of the position is to develop independence as a researcher and create opportunities for further career development.
Eligibility
Eligible for appointment as a postdoctoral researcher is someone who has obtained a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree, in the subject area of the appointment. Proof that the eligibility requirement is met must be submitted no later than at the time the appointment decision is made. Primarily, the applicant in question who has obtained a degree no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been obtained earlier.
